Beside the seaside, beside the sea
How lovely to explore new surroundings with friends.
Even better when it also serves up wonderful experiences of nature.
What might have been a fruitless search for birds actually served up numerous sightings.
My Kowa scope was able to highlight the wonders of Lapwing, Snipe, and a Marsh Harrier to a “non-birder” today.
Just beyond the Frinton beach huts we spotted Brent Geese.
From the Holland on Sea shipping container cum hide we also watched, Shoveler, Mallard, Teal, and Wigeon.
These we’re accompanied by Canada Geese, Greylag Geese, Cormorant, Black Headed Gulls, Shelduck, and a Moorhen.
Perching birds seen locally included, Jackdaw, Crows, Rock Pipit, Kestrel, magpie, Stonechat, Pied Wagtail, Wood Pigeon, Collared Dove, Robin, Blackbird, Blue Tit, and Starlings.
Other sightings? Great Black Backed Gull, Herring Gull, Curlew, Pheasant, Blackcap, Black Headed Gull.
Later in the day a second walk at Walton on the Naze gave clear sightings of seal in the Ouse Estuary.
What a good day!
