Determined? Obstinate? Very Wet.
Each week I try to take one day off from driving.
It doesn’t always work, but when it does I feel the quality of my life improves.
Sometimes the opportunity to forgo the car falls at the most inappropriate time.
Such as last night when I promised someone a hand with a small project in Crawley.
By the time I’d shut down the lap top the rain was hammering down.
Would I go soft? Blow my chance to stay out of the tin box, or just select the most suitable bike for the journey.
Cheap coat, gloves, and helmet on I pulled out onto the drive.
From the waist down I was soaked within 50 yards.
My glasses steamed up, my lights barely gave enough visibility to traverse the Worth Way.
Am I determined?
Obstinate?
Quite possibly.
The M23 was awash with commuters, whilst I was saturated.
Project completed I popped outside to find the rain had stopped, but my had bike gone!
So much for being a helping hand?
Five minutes later we discovered a neighbour had “brought it in, otherwise it would have been stolen”.
A bit of well intentioned confusion!
Job well done.
A pleasant “dry-ish” ride home.
I’m 100% sure I did the right thing.
Eight miles of fun, and no need for a tin box.
