the eternal covenant
When I see the rainbow in the clouds, I will remember the eternal covenant between God and every living creature on earth.” Then God said to Noah, “Yes, this rainbow is the sign of the covenant I am confirming with all the creatures on earth.” Genesis 9:16-17
A new year, and everybody seems to be hoping for a fresh start.
Once again I find myself on my “Bible in a Year” reading plan, and once again I’m starting out in the book of Genesis.
Roz and I squeezed in a walk yesterday afternoon, and on the way back I said I can feel rain. Only a few drops fell before Roz stopped and looked up.
Wow. A bland seventies housing estate was illuminated by the setting sun, and a full sized rainbow.
How many people look at these with indifference?
Certainly the horse-rider was equally impressed.
The scientists may say this is an atmospheric phenomenon, but in Genesis the writer claims it’s a covenant from God to mankind, he will not flood the earth again.
Localised flooding yes, absolute flooding no.
Having read Genesis 9 in the morning it was quite something to see this in the afternoon.
