A book that’s featured here previously, but well worth a third mention.

Once again I read through the daily devotions, and cheated by reading the passages from 1st – 6th January this morning.

My final “take-away” from this year’s reading was a good laugh about “being ready”. The advent season is all about the coming of the child king – Jesus.

As I was reading the book there was a good bit of media coverage concerning the alignment of Jupiter and Saturn, in effect “A Christmas Star”.

The last time it was seen was around 2000 years ago. A short while after the birth of Jesus. Could this have been the self same heavenly phenomena which guided “wise men” to the child king?

Christmas cards and nativity scenes suggest Mary had a child with shepherds and wise men all ricking up at the same time. In actuality it could have been 2 years later.

I wish I’d seen this “star” but it was too cloudy in Sussex.

What pertinent for us today is will we be ready for the second coming? Stephen Rand mentions the time people wasted trying to calculate the date when Jesus will return .

The Bible says he will come when he’s not expected.

He mentions that all too often he’s been in the bath when the doorbell rings as his guests arrive.

As we draw towards the end of another year, let’s be thankful that he still waits for those who would welcome him in.

The Lord isn’t really being slow about his promise, as some people think. No, he is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to be destroyed, but wants everyone to repent.

2 Peter 3:9
