Whoever and wherever you are, Merry Christmas.

Park all the feelings of frustration to one side, and enjoy the moment.

My morning devotions today had a focus on childbirth.

The author wrote about the time he took a photo in an African mud hut, back in the days when you had to use film, and send it away to be developed.

Even though he used a flash he hadn’t spotted a baby wrapped in a blanket, next to the livestock.

How I marvel that Mary and Joseph had to start their family in a stable! Mary deserves praise for being a willing servant, and Joseph deserves honour for sticking by his fiancée.

Most of all Jesus deserves all the praise for bringing hope into a fallen world.

What an amazing scene, it reminds me of the weeks leading up to my “New Birth”.

As a troubled teenager I was invited along to hear a “group” playing and singing at Hildenborough Hall.

There were perhaps 16 odd people in the group, and after the performance was over the musicians dispersed into the audience to talk about Jesus.

One of them took time to talk to me, and wrote to me afterwards.

I wasn’t yet a Christian, but it made me feel so good that there was someone who would take time to talk to me and talk about the meaning of life.

If you’re lonely this Christmas (I’m sure Mud’s hit single must be in many people’s minds) then take a moment to think about Mary, and the miraculous birth at Bethlehem.

What an event!

What a gift.

He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God— children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.

John 1:11-13
