After successive weekends walking the Greenwich Meridian I’m feeling a little lost.

What can you get up to on a wet weekend?

After running through various options we decided to stay local.

We parked in Handcross took a stroll down Coos Lane, and admired the water lilies on Furnace Pond.

Somehow I’d chosen an ideal route for a drizzly day.

Most of the roads and tracks were covered by overhanging branches, and we hardly used our hoods all the way round.

At Lower Ashfold we headed east, spotted a fancy garden party (with participants looking to erect gazebos for shelter).

Then we came up to the highlight of the day, a church that’s open.

It might be off the beaten track, but St.Mary’s has a lively congregation that seek to share their faith.

How heartening to see “He is Risen” on display 119 days after Easter Sunday.

And if our hope in Christ is only for this life, we are more to be pitied than anyone in the world.

But in fact, Christ has been raised from the dead. He is the first of a great harvest of all who have died.

So you see, just as death came into the world through a man, now the resurrection from the dead has begun through another man. Just as everyone dies because we all belong to Adam, everyone who belongs to Christ will be given new life.

1 Corinthians 15: 19-22

Singing might not be allowed, but at least the doors are open – and it was good to be allowed in to pray.
