day of small things
The first day of the year is a pretty big deal for birdwatchers.
It’s time to start with a clean sheet, and look to see how many species one can find.
My eventual total was 39, with my favourite “field sighting” being a Sparrowhawk at the dam end of Weirwood Reservoir.
Our garden birds were varied, and the Treecreeper was my “find” of the morning.
I’m guessing this dead specimen is a Pygmy Shrew.
They don’t last much beyond a year, perhaps this one died of old age.
I found it on the Greenwich Meridian Trail.
Perhaps that would make a good walk for me to tackle this year.
If my memory serves me well it’s a long one.
