smoking pot

Our little group walked around Boundary Gardens at Arnold Circus.

Up above the streets a smoker with a conscience sat beneath an open sash window.

He’s been there before by the looks of things.

A multi-coloured pot serves as his ash tray.

My first thought?

“Wake up to the fact that your addiction brings bondage”.

My next consideration?

Am I any different?

What holds on to me, and keeps me from freedom?

A big mortgage?

Wanting to fit in?

Trying to leave something tangible behind?

Am I kidding myself that I’ll be “free” in just a few years time?

Jesus said to the people who believed in him, “You are truly my disciples if you remain faithful to my teachings. And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

“But we are descendants of Abraham,” they said. “We have never been slaves to anyone. What do you mean, ‘You will be set free’?”

Jesus replied, “I tell you the truth, everyone who sins is a slave of sin. A slave is not a permanent member of the family, but a son is part of the family forever. So if the Son sets you free, you are truly free.

John  8: 31-36 NLT

I’m not convinced Jesus came to set me free at 65!

How do I get back on track?

Are any of us “truly sorted”.

Or maybe we are?

Dear friends, you always followed my instructions when I was with you. And now that I am away, it is even more important. Work hard to show the results of your salvation, obeying God with deep reverence and fear.

Philippians 2:12

Even for the Christian life may not be straight forward.

Maybe living a responsible life, keeping our promises and “fearing God” is all that’s needed?
