Up at the crack of sparrows this morning.

It was the Easter Sunday service at Tilgate Park in Crawley.

About one hundred of us from all different denominations witnessed the sun rise, the mists dispel and a new day begin.

It was cold, but I couldn’t help thinking how well it was going WITHOUT a building.

When one lady started to stamp her feet and get active to stay warm I was reminded of a story I heard a few years back.

A lady in Russia came to know Jesus, and wanted to serve in the Sunday School the next Sunday.

The leaders sucked their teeth and said that would be fine, but there was just one problem.

Only those who had been baptised were allowed to serve.

Well this young girl was desperate to serve, so a baptism was quickly arranged.

The congregation walked out onto a frozen lake, cleared away the snow and cut a hole in the ice.

No problem! She was immersed in the ice cold water and served at Sunday School a few days later.

I can’t help wondering if this is the sort of thing Jesus had in mind when he spoke to Peter and said,

”you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church”

Matthew 16:18

We’re better off with living stones than any amount of dry walls.
