The only previous occasion I went through Gatton must have been forty years ago.

I remember seeing a Matra-Simca Bagheera parked outside Tower Lodge.  On Saturday a boring Audi sat on the spot once occupied by the French 3 seater.

The footpath here starts to follow the North Downs Way, and in late October serves up wonderful scrunchy leaves for yard after yard.

Cheery cyclists sped down the hill.

Teenagers with giant sized ruck-sacks came through (blanking yours truly).

Parents with new born babies strapped to their chests, and random dog walkers came towards me.

Part way up the hill I reached a fork, and kept right. The local information boards call this area North Buck Wood.

The deviation took me away from The North Downs Way, but paths merge again near the top of the hill.

Pretty soon I’d be looking at a vast panorama, and wondering whether a kiosk coffee was in order.
