Another Four Wheel Drive buzzes past.
You can tell it’s proper muddy round here, this one has a snorkel!
The luxury of a firm footing didn’t last long as we were just 200 yards from Ridge Farm and a particularly vocal collie.
For all his bark it seemed he just wanted attention, once stroked he let us through as we continued in a westerly direction.
Pretty soon we were on a bridge above the Dorking to Horsham railway line.
Tom wearing his “inspectorate” hat informed me that it has too few trains and too many embankments that need costly maintenance.
Although he was quick to point out a high level gulley at the top of an embankment, with a discharge running below the bridge.
Who’d have thought a bit of civil engineering could brighten up a dull day?
I boosted my performance up the steady incline with a few swigs of fizzy water. The healthy “Nakd” snack bars were long gone.
