Turn left at Stockenden Farm, and into a field.

What’s have we here?

Two small Shire Horses, just resting.

Wind the clock back 100 years and these creatures were the backbone of British agriculture.

My mind went back to James Herriot books I was reading earlier this year.

I’m no heavy horse expert, but these were docile and not at all frisky.

That’s good, because a hoof to the head often offends.
