Taliah stood on her head, and looked at me upside down.

That was a few weeks ago, but the image came to mind as I was reading Matthew 10:39

If you cling to your life, you will lose it;

but if you give up your life for me,

you will find it.

It’s so counter intuitive.

We are quick to look after our own interests and grab a bit of “me”time, but what if that isn’t what life is all about?

Jesus also says in the preceding verse Matthew 10:38

If you refuse to take up your cross

and follow me,

you are not worthy of being mine.

I don’t know about you, but I know I’m not worthy of being in God’s family.

And yet he wants us to lay down our lives, and follow him.

Not half follow him (remember Lot’s wife)

Luke 17:32

The more I read the Gospels the more I realise the need to constantly evaluate my life against the Lord’s teaching.

He doesn’t advocate a lifestyle that you’ll read anywhere else.

In clinging to “life” we are actually robbed of the thing we seek to save.

When we’re pre-occupied with self it’s difficult to put JESUS at the centre.

We may end up chasing rainbows.

Grab a Bible (even an online one )start at Matthew and get a handle on what real life and Biblical Christianity is all about.

It’ll turn you upside down, and inside out!
