Ten out of Ten for this James Herriot book.

At last we find out that “Jim” made it as a pilot, being the 5th to qualify out of an intake of 300 men.

Sadly it all went wrong, as an operation just days later meant he was re-classified as un-fit for duty.

Perhaps we should all be grateful?

He didn’t get shot down over France.

He was re-united with his wife.

We got to read all his fabulous stories about life as a vet in Yorkshire.

This book was particularly touching as the compassionate side of James Herriot comes out even more than normal.

It’s more about the men who own two sick dogs, and what happens next after they lose their best friend.

Of course there are all the usual “funny bits” as well, with Tristan’s antics providing plenty of laughs along the way.

You may hear someone has “chucked their girlfriend” but here it actually happens!

One minute it’s all action on sofa, the next the girl in question is tossed out of a window into rose bushes!

You’ll have read it yourself to find out why.
