Before I dropped down into the town I could see a small freighter waiting offshore.

Once I arrived at sea-level it started to  ease gently into harbour.

It reminded me of a two words from a psalm, which I put in context here.

They were glad when it grew calm, and he guided them to their desired haven.

Psalm 107.28

Actually the sea here had been pretty calm, and the M.V. Scot Isles freighter had simply been waiting on the tide before completing her journey.

Even so I wonder how many believers get caught up in the storms of life, and lose sight of their destination.

I hardly need to remind you that we live in a time of dramatic political instability, but for those of who follow Christ the waves should never distract us from the promises of God.

“There will be signs in the sun, moon and stars. On the earth, nations will be in anguish and perplexity at the roaring and tossing of the sea. People will faint from terror, apprehensive of what is coming on the world, for the heavenly bodies will be shaken. At that time they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. When these things begin to take place, stand up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.”

Luke 21: 25-28

Here’s an old hymn to encourage the weary pilgrim.

Whatever happens today, keep your mind on the one who will lead his flock to the desired haven.
