I spent more than a quarter of my life within a few minutes drive of Teignmouth Pier.

On occasion I would swim out to the end and look back to the beach.

Nowadays I live in the south east, which features truncated piers and fire damaged edifices harking back to Victorian times.

I’ve been to Southend a few times before today, but not had a chance to look down on their famous pier.

Wow!

I’m impressed.

At 1.34 miles long it’s the longest anywhere in the world.

There’s even a train service that shuttles from end to end!

  1. The one thing I remember about Southend with pleasure is Rossi ice cream.
