Meandering around the western periphery of Crawley I came across the Ifield  Mill Pond.

I was quite surprised to see Egyptian Geese interspersed amongst the Canada Geese and Mallard.

Why would they congregate here?

Well, this particular species has evolved into a prodigious scavenger.

They feed off the discarded shopping trolleys found submerged in Crawley’s ponds and lakes.

Mind you, the pond is vast and looked like it’s worth another visit.
