Redshank – Thorney Island

We get Redshank at Goring, but they never seem to be close enough for a decent photo.

By the time I’d reached the Thorney Island Yacht Club my feet were starting to suffer.

Steel capped site boots are a poor substitute for proper walking shoes.

I should point out to the occasional rambler that this shot was not as easy to take as you might imagine.

Thorney Island is an active Ministry of Defence base.  Access is via a fortified bridge a few hundred yards south of a little marina.

It isn’t immediately obvious, but access IS permitted despite all the ominous signs that MOD place to try and warn you off.

We saw several folk turn away disappointed, but once we’d pressed the access button the gate miraculously opened.
