Walking towards the castle I got the impression we were going to have a good day.

Rather than follow the crowd I slipped up an embankment towards the rose garden, and took this shot.

The sheer solidity and permanence of the structure really spoke to me.

Parts of the castle were originally built way back in 1067, that’s right – straight after The Battle of Hastings.

The scripture which came to mind was this;

For no one can lay any foundation

other than the one already laid,

which is Jesus Christ.

1 Corinthians 3:11 NIV

and I suppose I could add another

The name of the LORD is a fortified tower;

the righteous run to it and are safe.

Proverbs 18:10

These are just impressions, and like all the “types” found in the Old Testament they have their limitations.

As I read an outline history of the castle I found out it wasn’t as impregnable as you’d have thought.

You can read about it here.

  1. Well found, I’ve not seen it from that angle before.
