hard pressed on every side
As I was reading 2 Corinthians 4 this morning an image came to mind.
Yes, you got it. Captain Scarlet trying to survive in the midst of unbelievable adversity.
I wonder where Gerry Anderson took his cues when he created this fictional character?
Someone who was killed, and came back to life to protect the inhabitants on earth. He was billed as the indestructible man, but if I remember correctly he wasn’t always best pleased when facing huge challenges.
Even so he got on with the job.
But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us. We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed. We always carry around in our body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be revealed in our body. For we who are alive are always being given over to death for Jesus’ sake, so that his life may also be revealed in our mortal body. So then, death is at work in us, but life is at work in you.
When things seem impossible then this passage is a great encouragement.
I’ve another image in mind now, perhaps I can use that in my next post.
Have a great day, whatever you’re facing.
