Ford GT – Silverstone WEC

Silverstone marked the start of a new season for the World Endurance Championship, and the first outing for the Ford GT.

The two Chip Gannassi cars seemed pretty well sorted, with this “66” car running 3rd in class early in the event.

Later it slipped to 5th in class, one spot below their British team mates in the “67”car.

These cars looked gorgeous, performed well, but the engines sounded distinctly feeble. The last version sported a 5.4 litre V8, whilst this one has a 3.5 litre twin turbo V6.

It sounded like a 1.0 litre Fiesta unit, with no apparent muscle car rumble.

I’d expect them to threaten the Ferrari for class honours as the season progresses.
