Ever since secondary school I’ve loved board games.

I like the obvious ones like Risk, Monopoly, and Tri-Tactics, but years back I was particularly partial to “Go”.

The idea of the game was to travel around the world collecting souvenirs.

We kept it in a cupboard, where our decorators left a bucket of pink paint overnight.

The following morning the aforesaid bucket was found to contain most of the contents of my board game.

I haven’t played it since.

All of this has come back to me tonight as our Missionary friends Jez & Carina are about to set off on the next leg of their lives as missionaries.

After a short time re-connecting with family, and helping out with their first grandchild they’ll be at language school, and then Africa.

Over 4 years ago they sold their home, and Jez left his post as a senior accountant.  Carina left our little town having been an instrumental in bringing numerous souls to know Christ.

What I love about them is how they’ve heard the Great Commission and taken up the challenge.

Jesus didn’t challenge his followers to erect elaborate buildings, or encourage people to become members of a glorified social club.

The clarion call of the Western Church seems to be “Come”.

Here’s what Jesus said after his resurrection.

Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

Matthew 28: 19-20

  1. They are to be admired and have done far more than myself. Safe travels and God bless.
