Just what can you get for £4 these days?

Not a lot.

But suppose you’ve got just one sunny afternoon, and it’s part of your annual leave entitlement.

I wanted to do something different, and took Roz to Tilgate Park which is only 10 minutes drive from our home.

What an amazing place.

If you choose your parking spot carefully entrance is free.

On our walk around the lakes I spotted 22 different species of wild birds, with a Treecreeper being my particular favourite.

In 90 minutes I spotted,

Mute Swan, Herring Gull, Black Headed Gull, Cormorant, Mallard, Coot, Canada Geese,

Grey Heron, House Sparrow, Robin, Blackbird, Great Tit, Blue Tit, Long Tailed Tit, Wren, Pied Wagtail,

Nuthatch, Treecreeper, (heard a Great Spotted Woodpecker), Crow, Magpie, Jay, and Wood Pigeon.

After circulating around Tilgate Lake (and trying to find two of our grandchildren) we eventually wandered into the Walled Garden, and then parted with £4.00 to cover the entrance cost for two adults to get a look around the Nature Centre.

What brilliant value!

Elijah and Tirzah were very excited by the Meerkats and Mongoose enclosures.

I really enjoyed getting within a few feet of these little critters, and have a good mind to pop back again soon with my long lens.

For now I’ll leave to ComparetheMeeerkat.com
