Well that was nice.

A week off in “The Garden of England”.

I’m not sure how I’ve managed to miss out on a Kent holiday in 56 years, but I’m glad we got around to it in the end.

At times the experience was so unlike home I could have sworn we were abroad.

Here’s our shabby hotel, just 30 yards from a shingle beach.

The Bank Holiday brought out a whole heap of people, who enjoyed the live music (and a few beers).

Sandgate was once the home of H. G. Wells.

Can you hear Jeff Wayne’s War of the Worlds?  Or Richard Burton’s commentary?

I’m not sure if it was written here, but the green house was his home.

The area was a curious mix of run down and fantastic properties.

I think the place needs a bit of investment.

We had bright sunshine by day, and fabulous moonlight reflecting on the sea by night.

I’m off to Silverstone today, but there are more photos to follow.

  1. Very nice shots, but where is the beach. And I did like the atmosphere of the ols brick wall.
