After our mountain top experience we dropped back down to Kliene Scheidegg.

There we milled about for 15 minutes, boarded the next train and started a steady descent under the north face of the Eiger.

By now the sun was low in the sky, and the shadows lengthening.

The racer in me soon picked out a Ford Kuga which was also descending on a narrow road heading for Grund.

We were limited to 24 kmh, and less on the steeper slopes. I thought the car would soon overhaul us, and sure enough the car gradually gained ground.

A few moments later it was ahead, my “race” was over.

Until we came around a bend and I could see the car virtually reversing off the road.

A few hundred yards later the reason became apparent, a small herd of cattle (all with bells tinkling) had right of way.

That was it, we arrived in Grund victorious!

Whilst we’re on the topic, the hotel breakfasts still come with those delightful “Hero” jams, and a wide range of bread rolls.

Spendid.
