A lady stands by the carriage window as her partner records the moment.

She’s obviously enjoyed the trip, and you can see how widely the window opens for holiday snappers like me.

A few notes on the Junfraujoch if you’re ever making trip yourself.

1. If you travel from Interlaken make sure you buy a half price discount card (about £27 each) when you reach Switzerland.

2. Leave early, it takes 2 hours and you may want to hop on and off en route.

3. Try to do the trip in a circle, and you’ll see more variety (we stopped at Grindlewald on the way back).

4. Be prepared for high prices, we paid about £80.00 each!

5. Make use of the two stops on the way up, we looked out onto clouds but they also have free toilets if you need them.

6. Don’t be surprised if you feel ill.  The carriages all have sickness bags overhead.

7. Take it easy, there’s no rush.  You’ll probably be short of oxygen.

8. Feel free to dine in the restaurant.  The food is quite reasonable, and surprisingly well priced.

9. Take warm clothing, especially a hat and gloves.

10. Consider walking down part way if you have the time, as long as you have stout shoes.  There’s a stop 35 minutes walk above the Kleine Schiedegg. Hop out here.
