To experience the best that Ostende has to offer I was whipped by sand, and lashed by spray.

Most folk skipped the opportunity and sat in the bars, and restaurants enjoying a “Thank God it’s Friday” meal or beer.

A select few made the trip down the walkway, and blew away the cobwebs.

What did they find?

A photo opportunity, fresh air, and something which is only on offer “far from the madding crowd”.

I was thrilled to point out the overheard cries of Sandwich Terns, myriad Turnstones, and reflections from Ostende’s ugliest tower block.

A short journey ignored by most illustrates that well known passage;

Enter ye in at the strait gate:

for wide is the gate,

and broad is the way,

that leadeth to destruction,

and many there be which go in thereat:

Because strait is the gate,

and narrow is the way,

which leadeth unto life,

and few there be that find it.

Matthew 7: 13-14 KJV

  1. Many people don’t like that verse, but it cannot be denied or ignored.
