There’s nothing more tragic than looking at a dead creature.  Earlier this week I nearly posted a picture of a “recently deceased Siskin”.

A beautiful (and often overlooked) bird.

There it was in my friend’s hand.

Dead.

Every feather, every detail just perfect, apart from the closed eyes.

I tried to imagine how my friend felt when her husband died.

A few days later I met her, and she explained the horror she felt as Bob wasn’t going to wake up.

So why is it that dead trees can look so wonderful?

I don’t know.

Perhaps it’s because the bare wood exposes the intricate structure that usually remains unseen.
