I’ve not seen one of these before.

It looks like it’s a Silver washed Fritillary, but my book doesn’t show the green abdomen seen on this specimen.

It’s much bigger than the Pearl Bordered Fritillaries we saw down in Cornwall.

It was more or less Red admiral size, and very lively.

  1. I would say yes that is a Silver Washed Fritillary male. I have only got pictures of the female (slightly different wing pattern) but she has a slight green tinge to her. I would put it down to age. He is fading a bit and getting on in weeks.
