Meet someone for the first time, and you’ll go through the motions;
1. What’s your name?
2. Where do you come from?
3. What do you?
In the end we can walk away having “pigeon holed” the person in question.
Whilst travelling to Scandinavia last Wednesday we stopped in Gent, Belgium.
Look what I found. A shop selling fashion trinkets, with this bold name “I am”.
It’s interesting that even Jesus checked out the reports of his fame.
When travelling with his companions he asked;
“Who do people say I am?”
Mark 8:27
The disciples replied;
“Some say John the Baptist, others say Elijah, still others say you are one of the prophets”
Mark 8:28
I love the next bit;
“But what about you? he asked. “Who do you say that I am”
Peter answered, “You are the Christ”
Mark 8:29
I wonder if Jesus asked the question so that the disciples could really seize the moment. They may have pondered all sorts of notions, but really only made this discovery when asked a direct question. Peter has to be the first, and jumps in with both feet.
In effect he is saying, “You’re God’s anointed one, The King, The Messiah, the one promised for generations – it really is you!”.
I’d like to think Peter only realised what he’d verbalised a few moments after the words tumbled out.
What about Jesus, who does he claim to be?
The Pharisees asked Jesus,
“Who are you?”
John 8:25
Many of those who questioned him came with”closed minds”, but in the end after quite a long discourse Jesus spells it out;
before Abraham was I AM
John 8:58
Jesus was getting them to think, but in the end he just tells the unpalatable truth.
In effect “I am from everlasting to everlasting”.
I am God.
What a claim!

What a claim! And the best part? It could not and can not be refuted!
. . .
I have come across a few blogs lately dealing with TRUTH. In the world today we meet people who say things like ‘You have your truth and I have my truth’ but the fact is there can be only one ‘truth’ and any variation is a lie.
. . .
Jesus said “I am THE Truth”
. . .
What absolute certainty for us!
What an amazing God!
